This poem is to my son Matthew
Whom I gave 10 thousand kisses,
and can’t give 10 thousand more.
Whose bright blue eyes and dimpled cheeks are
etched clearly in my mind.
Always so confident and self assured
I couldn’t hold you back.
In such a rush to leave the nest,
racing to experience it all.
As if you knew …
your time was running out.
Now, I cradle my broken heart,
like a delicate egg.
Wondering, how I could have kept you safe.
